La deforestación sí incide en la mayor presencia de CO2 en la atmósfera. Pep Canadell, del Global Carbon Proyect y Csiro Marine and Atmospheric Research reveló en Science que la deforestación tropical libera 1.500 millones de toneladas de carbono cada año a la atmósfera.
La deforestación en esas regiones responde por cerca del 20 por ciento de las emisiones de carbono debido a las actividades humanas. Así, se liberarán de 87 a 130.000 millones de toneladas hacia el 2100, lo cual es mucho más que la cantidad que sería liberada por 13 años de combustión global de combustibles fósiles.

Thus, 87 to 130 billion tons of CO2 will be release by 2100, which is much more than the amount that would be released by 13 years of global fossil fuel combustion.
