El próximo ciclo de 11 años de tormentas solara comenzará posiblemente en marzo de 2008 y su pico se producirá a finales de 2011 o comienzos de 2012, según una previsión del NOAA Space Environment Center, en coordinación con un panel internacional de expertos.
Esperado para el pasado otoño, el postergado ciclo solar 24 causó problemas al panel y lo dejó dividido acerca de si se acerca un periodo fuerte o débil de tormentas solares, aunque ninguno cree que se romperán los récords.
