Los álamos agradecen a los lobos-Aspen trees say thank you to aspen tress

Los lobos han regresado al parque Yellowstone en Estados Unidos y por primera vez en 50 años crecen álamos jóvenes en el sector norte.
¿Qué sucedió? Un estudio publicado en Biological Conservation demuestra que la llamada ecología del miedo funciona al restablecerse el equilibrio en ese ecosistema: los álamos sobreviven a los alces americanos.
Los lobos habían sido removidos del parque. Los álamos no volvieron a crecer por el daño de los alces. Los lobos fueron reintroducidos en 1995 luego de 70 años de ausencia y las poblaciones de alces comenzó a retroceder, permitiendo que renacieran los álamos. Los alces se han alejado de algunas áreas por el temor a los lobos.

The wolves have returned to the Yellowstone park in the United States and for the first time in 50 years young aspen trees in the North sector grow.

What happened? A study published in Biological Conservation demonstrates that the called ecology of the fear works when recovering the balance in that ecosystem: aspen survive the american elk.

The wolves had been removed of the park. Aspen did not grow anymore by the damage caused by elks. The wolves were reintroduced in 1995 after 70 years of absence and the populations of elk began to back down, allowing that appeared again aspen trees. The elk have moved away of some areas by the fear to the wolves.
