Aquellos niños cuyas madres estuvieron sometidas a humo de segunda mano durante su embarazo tienen más síntomas de problemas sicológicos serios comparados con los de mujeres que no tuvieron tal exposición, de acuerdo con un estudio de la Universidad de Washington.
En el número en curso de Child Psychiatry and Human Development, los sicólogos Lisa Gatzke-Kopp y Theodore Beauchaine proveen la primera evidencia que liga la exposición de las madres al humo de segunda mano en el embarazo con el desorden del déficit de atención e hiperactividad de sus hijos y problemas de conducta. Los sicólogos llaman estas conductas comportamientos psicopatológicos externalizadores y sus síntomas incluyen la conducta agresiva, el déficit de atención, resistencia a la autoridad, acompañados de peleas, ausencia escolar, ruptura de normas, uso de sustancias, robo y destrucción de la propiedad.

Those children whose mothers were exposed to second-hand smoke during their pregnancy have more symptoms of serious psychological problems compared with those of women which did not have such exposition, according to a study of the University of Washington.
In the current issue of Child Psychiatry and Human Development, UW psychologists Lisa Gatzke-Kopp and Theodore Beauchaine provide the first evidence that links the exposition of the mothers to the smoke of second hand in the pregnancy with the disorder of the attention deficit and hyperactivity of its children and problems of conduct. Psychologists call these behaviors externalizing psychopathologic and their symptoms include aggressive conduct, deficit of attention, resistance to the authority, accompanied by fights, school failure, breaking of rules, use of substances, robbery and destruction of the property.
